Using weights and bars is excellent for conditioning your body to lose weight and increase performance, and has several health benefits including reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and lowering cholesterol and blood pressure.
We have many different weights available to buy, ranging in style and mass. Depending on what you want to achieve with your weight training, most of our weights equipment falls into free weights (dumbbells, and kettlebells), bars and rods.
Free weights enable you to move freely while you work out and work most of the muscles groups in your body. Free weights are versatile, convenient and encourage you to use the stabilizing muscles in your core, back and legs while training.
Consider How Much Weight to Lift
The idea of using weights equipment is to stress your muscles, so it is very important to consider the weight you can lift while stilll keeping good form and building resistance. As you get better, you will want to increase your intensity with the amount of weight you lift to keep building muscle and avoid plateauing. Start off with smaller weights and work your way up to heavier weights.
Lifting Weights the Right Way
Whenever doing any kind of exercise with weights, it’s important you have someone to spot you especially if you are using very heavy weights, as this reduces the risk of injury. When handling weights and plates, be careful to bend your legs when picking up weights so your back is not strained. Warming up is important too (at least five minutes of aerobic exercise) to get your muscles warm and flexible.
